Objective

  • Determine the effect of plant population on silage yield and quality with elite silage hybrids.

Plot Layout: 4-row, 17.77 feet plots; 2 replicates
Locations: 6 site-years in CO and KS
Years: 2011, 2012

Results

  • Across all locations, individual hybrids had a positive silage yield response to increasing plant population.
  • Increasing plant population did not significantly affect the NDFD* value for any of the hybrids tested.
  • All products responded well to increased plant population while maintaining starch content across all populations.
